Under His Wings

Under His Wings

You are my strong tower – Angel of the Lord

Under your wings I find shelter

You are my refuge – your music surrounds me and carries me on a heavenly breeze.

I feel your grip on my life. I keep my soul close to your heart.

Cover me with your feathers faithful God – your sword of the Spirit defends me.

“People take refuge in the shadow of your wings,” says Psalm 36:7. The psalmist seeks refuge

and shelter “under His wings” (Psalm 57:1; 61:4) and I lie awake each night thinking of you and

reflecting on how you help me like a father. I sing through the night under your splendor-

shadow, offering up to you my songs of delight and joy! With passion I pursue and cling to you.

Because I feel your grip on my life, I keep my soul close to your heart. TPT 63:7

But there is a richer, fuller application for under His wings that emerges in Psalm 91. In the first

verse, the same idea of God as a sheltering refuge is established: “Whoever dwells in the shelter

of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). In God’s presence are

security, guidance, protection, and care.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart” (Psalm 91:3–4).

Speaking out loud as we pray is a form of declaration and praise: My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart will rejoice! Everything in me will celebrate when you speak what is right. Proverbs 23:15
