The Bride Is Being Prepared

There are moments in the creative process when a painting becomes more than an image. It begins to feel like a glimpse into something just beyond the veil.

Spirit’s Consummation is a miniature watercolor that seeks to capture the mysterious embrace of the Holy Spirit with the Bride of Christ.

At the center of the painting, if you look closely, you will discover the figure of a woman clothed in a flowing white cloud. She seems almost to become part of the atmosphere surrounding her.

Above her hovers a dove. Golden rays of light and divine energy descend from the dove upon the Bride, surrounding her with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. But there is another image hidden within the painting. Look carefully and you may discover the white horse of Faithful and True, quietly awaiting the Bride—the horse upon which she will one day ride through the heavens with her Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. Throughout the watercolor, the atmosphere itself seems charged with expectancy. Particles of light and energy fill the heavens, suggesting an outpouring of the Spirit and the anticipation of something extraordinary about to take place. The Bride is being prepared.

The wedding is approaching. And heaven itself seems to be waiting.

The imagery brings to mind the radiant language of the Song of Songs, where the beloved arises from the wilderness, clinging to her Beloved, and ascends into the realm of the radiant dawn—dazzling and majestic to behold. For me, this is an image not simply of waiting, but of transformation.

The Bride of Christ is emerging from the wilderness. She is being clothed in light. She is being filled with the Spirit and prepared for union with her King.

Perhaps this is also a picture of something God is doing within each of us.

There are seasons when we may feel as though we are still wandering through the wilderness. Yet beneath the surface, the Holy Spirit may already be preparing us for something we cannot fully see.

The darkness does not have the final word. Somewhere ahead is the radiant dawn.

And somewhere within the mystery, the white horse waits.
